2009 US PGA Championship Travel - Chaska MinnesotaA Tiger Woods fan watches the play during the final round of the 89th PGA Championship at the Southern Hills Country Club on August 12, 2007 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Chaska is a small and relatively unimportant city located in Carver County, Minnesota but its close proximity to one of the largest cities in the lakes district, Minneapolis, makes it easily accessible to the thousands of grand slam golf fans who will be making their way to Hazeltine National in August.

The city is a hop, skip and a jump away from the burgeoning centre of Minneapolis, 19 miles or 31 kilometres to be exact and the vast majority of both local and international enthusiasts will be coming in by air.

By air

Minneapolis is adequately serviced by the Minneapolis/ Saint Paul International Airport that is divided into two distinct terminals, the Lindbergh and Humphrey. Visitors are encouraged to check at which terminal they will be arriving at and departing from, as each of them has their own dedicated airlines that use their services.

The easiest and cheapest way to get into downtown Minneapolis is by way of a light rail train, fares of which vary between $1.75 and $2.25 dependent on the time of day. Both terminals are linked to the Mall of America and southern parts of the city by the service.

Those who are intent on staying in Chaska itself are advised to opt for car rental directly from the airport. There is wide array of accommodation in Chaska, from luxurious to budget.

By train

Amtrak offers a daily service to Midway Station, located off University Avenue near the border between the twin cities - St Paul and Minneapolis. The Empire Builder (trains 7/27 & 8/28) serve the city from Chicago, Seattle or Portland. Taxi is arguably the easiest option to get to your final destination as trains often arrive well after dark, when the bus schedules have been reduced for the night.

By bus

Greyhound and Jefferson bus lines offer a complete service to the Hawthorne Transportation Centre, located at 950 Hawthorne Avenue. From there it is a couple of minutes taxi ride to downtown hotels. Alternatively, arrange for a hire car drop off at the centre and then make your way to Chaska for the duration of the Championship.

The Hazeltine National Golf Club is located at 1900 Hazeltine Boulevard in Chaska and is easily accessed by motor car.
