Rory Sabbatini - 2008 PGA Championship Player Profile
Rory
Sabbatini is a South African professional golfer with a mission: to win the
majors. “I’m looking forward to winning all [three] of them” he says. After
having tied for a second place victory in the 2007 US Masters, his
confident assertion may not be far from the truth.
The talented golfer, who currently ranks 11th in the official world golf rankings, has had ten top ten finishes throughout his nine year career, including four professional wins since joining the PGA Tour in 1999: the 2007 Crown Plaza Invitational, the 2006 Nissan Open, the 2003 FBR Capital Open and the 2000 Air Canada Championship.
Rory Sabbatini finished 2006 placed 12th on the money list, and in September 2007, reached the top ten in the official world golf rankings. With achievements like these beneath his belt, Rory Sabbatini seems to real chance of winning the 2008 PGA Championship to be held in August 2008.
2007 has been arguably one of the best years of the 2008 PGA Championship player’s career. Besides his spectacular success at the Masters, he also finished second in the WGC Bridgestone Invitational. Rory Sabbatini also had five top ten finishes in 2007, including his third place finish at the Barclays Championship, which helped him climb to sixth on the PGA Tour money list.
Rory Sabbatini was also the only player to post four top ten finishes in the four Fed Ex Cup playoff events, and after his ninth place tie at the Tour Championship, soared to a career high eighth in the official world golf rankings.
Rory started playing the game at the age of four and was a South African Amateur semifinalist by the age of 16. In 1992 and 1993 he represented South Africa in the Junior National Team before leaving for the University of Arizona, where he earned All-American honours in 1997 and 1998. When he joined the PGA Tour, he was the youngest tour member at the time and won his maiden Tour title, the Air Canada Championship, on debut.
Can the man who beat Adam Scott do it again in the PGA Championship? Many people the world over are betting that the 2008 PGA Championship player can. After all, he has represented his country in the World Cup four times and won the prestigious trophy in 2003.
