Romero equals record before rain ends 3rd round

The 2008 PGA Championship will conclude with marathon 36 hole 4th round after rain washed out the 3rd round of play.

The fact that thunderstorms kept the top three 2 balls off the course could have a significant impact on the result of the tournament, as the six tournament leaders will now be forced to play two rounds in a single day.

Amongst the golfers poised to benefit from the rain interruption is Andres Romero, who managed to shoot the round of the tournament with a record equaling 65.

Seven birdies saw Romero become only the 7th player to card a 5 under round at Oakland Hills during a major championship. The Argentinean finished the day on 2 over for the tournament, and is the only player in the top eight who will play an 18 hole round on Sunday.

"I played an excellent round," Romero said through an interpreter. "Almost perfect. Yesterday, I finished very mad with my round and now after this 18 holes, I can't believe it. I will have a chance for tomorrow. I have to wait, but it's great to be here."
