Immelman out of PGA Championship

Trevor Immelman has become the third golfer to withdraw from the field ahead of the 2009 PGA Championship.

The 2008 US Masters winner will join Robert Karlsson and Paul Casey on the sidelines at the year’s final major championship. Immelman has withdrawn from the tournament with the same wrist injury that had kept him out of the US Open and British Open.

Immelman had hoped to compete in the 2009 PGA Championship after regaining sufficient fitness to compete in the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. However, the South African aggravated his wrist injury whilst hitting a ball out of the rough during the final round.

"Seriously frustrated at this point," Immelman said on his Twitter feed on Tuesday.

The South African’s place at the 2009 PGA Championship will go to Bob Estes. Immelman has been in indifferent form in the 2009 season, having failed to finish in the top 20 of the tournament at any stage this season.
