Daly pulls out of PGA Championship
John Daly’s miserable run of form continued at the 2009 PGA Championship on Thursday, as the American withdrew from the tournament after carding a first round 78 which included double bogeys on the final two holes.
Daly, who won the PGA Championship in 1991, pulled out of the 2009 edition of the tournament citing a back injury. However, there are concerns that Daly may instead be struggling with diet issues that have left him depleted and considering a break from the game.
Daly’s most recent outing at a major championship saw him tie for 27th place at the British Open in July. Daly also struggled at the 2009 WGC-Bridgestone International last week, where he carded an 88 in his final round of the tournament.
"Flash camera back injury from 3 yrs ago still haunting me,” Daly said on his twitter page. “Pain is just unbearable making it tough to play -stretch all day thru the round."
