since turning professional in 1995. Padraigh Harrington has repeatedly proven
himself to be on of the top golfers in the world, and is one of the few players
on the tour capable of beating Tiger Woods at his best.
Harrington’s career has been a long and illustrious one, starting with his amateur impressive amateur career. In 1995 alone he won 11 out of 12 matches playing for Ireland, including the Irish Open and Closed Championships. That same year he went on to win the Walker Cup, an event that motivated him to turn pro.
The 2008 PGA Championship Player’s career took off immediately, beginning with his success at the European Tour School where he earned his full Tour card in just one year. He went on to qualify at each of his first nine European Tour events, and the finished the year with a ranking of 11 in the Order of Merit.
In the twelve years since then, Padraigh Harrington has gone from strength to strength. With dozens of top ten tournament finishes and numerous appearances in the Dunhill Cup and Irish World Cup.
1999 saw Padraig fulfil one of his career ambitions by representing Europe in the Ryder Cup. He followed this with a second place in the Linde German Masters, losing in a play off to Sergio Garcia. His form saw him selected for the prestigious Cisco World Match Play where he was triumphed over Carlos Franco and Ernie Els, before losing to Colin Montgomerie in the semi-finals.
In 2002, Padraigh established himself as one of the world’s top players, with a win at the prestigious Dunhill Links Championship at St Andrews which saw him finish second on the European Volvo Order of Merit. Later in the year the 2008 PGA Championship Player beat Tiger Woods in the final round of the Target World Challenge in the United States.
Padraigh Harrington’s most recent string of victories include wins at the 2007 Irish Open and the British Open which saw him become the only Irishman to have won a major championship. In August 2008, the PGA Championship Player will face Tiger Woods at the PGA Championship and will be looking to prove that he is the greatest Irish golfer in history.
