Sergio Garcia has spent most of his career in the top ten of the official World Golf Rankings, a remarkable feat given that he still appears to be approaching his prime.

If the 2008 PGA Championship player’s performance at the British Open is anything to go by, fans can look forward to a good performance at the forthcoming PGA Championship, where he came second to Tiger Woods in 1999.

The swashbuckling Spaniard began his professional PGA Tour career by winning the Mastercard Colonial and the Buick Classic in 2000. In 2005 he won the Buick Classic for a second time along with the EDS Byron Nelson Championship. 2005 also marked the last occasion that Sergio Garcia won on the PGA Tour victory when he took the Booz Allen Classic.

Sergio Garcia has also fared well on the European Tour. In 1999 he took the Murphy’s Irish Open title, and the Linde German Masters. Garcia also claimed the 2001 Trophee Lancome and the Canarias Open de Espana, the 2004 Mallorca Classic and the 2005 Omega European Masters.

Garcia’s off-tour victories are a further indication of his ability. In 1997, the 2008 PGA Championship player took the Catalonian Open Championship title and in 2001 he journeyed to South Africa to claim the first of two Nedbank Golf Challenge trophies. Garcia has also played in the Asian Tour, and in 2002 made his mark on Asia by winning the Kolion Cup Korean Open.

The upward trajectory of Sergio Garcia’s career path has seen him rise to the top five of the official world golf rankings. Although Sergio Garcia has had his setbacks, including a poor 2006 season, one can never overlook his undoubted ability. The 2008 PGA Championship player was a member of the European Ryder Cup team in 1999, 2002, 2004 and 2006, and is widely credited with playing a pivotal role in the victories of his team.
