Niclas Fasth – PGA Championship Player

Niclas Fasth of Sweden waves to the gallery after saving par on the 17th hole during the second round of the 89th PGA Championship at the Southern Hills Country Club on August 10, 2007 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.Perhaps best known for his achievement of jumping 60 spots in the official world golf rankings in one go, Niclas Fasth has a career any professional golfer would be proud of.

His best result is undeniably his fourth position in the 2007 US Open, which means that punters the world over will be watching his performance in next year’s majors, including the Masters, the British Open and the PGA Championship.

Another equally convincing result was Niclas Fasth’s second place finish in the 2001 Open Championship, and his tenth place finish in the 2003 PGA Championship. More recently, the PGA Championship player has won the prestigious 2007 BMW International Open, bringing his total number of European Tour wins to six.

His earlier wins, which provide the foundation for his more recent victories, are equally impressive. In the year that he turned pro, Niclas Fasth won three Challenge Tour tournaments, including the Vasteras Open, the Compaq Open and the Open Dijon Bourgogne.

Incredibly, he also took the Swedish Professional Championship that year. Since 1994 he has been a member of the European Tour for every season except for 1999. He qualified for the PGA Tour in 1997, and played both PGA and European Tours concurrently in 1998.

In 1999 he added the Daewoo Warsaw Golf Open to his already impressive resume. As a result of a poor season 1998, Niclas Fasth redirected his efforts to the European Tour, and climbed the rankings slowly but steadily, finishing tenth on the European Order of Merit in 2001.

2005 and 2006 were particularly good years for the PGA Championship player – he won twice on the European Tour and finished in the top twenty on the Order of Merit. Niclas Fasth’s more recent successes in the tour have boosted him to a fifth place finish on the Order of Merit and he finished 2007 ranked 20th in the official world golf rankings.

Things can only get improve for the Swedish champion. He’s shown the world he’s got what it takes after recovering from a series of career setbacks. Look out for this great player at the PGA Championship.
