2007 US PGA Championship
Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma played host to the 89th PGA Championship in 2007 and saw Tiger Woods make off with the coveted Wanamaker Trophy. With a total purse of $7 million, the US PGA Championship is the golf season's final major and attracts the very best golfers in the world.
The victory was Woods' 13th in a Major championship which put him five shy of equalling Jack Nicklaus' all-time record. The win was his fifth of the year and his final score was 71-63-69-69-272. The first prize of $1,260,000, plus the 4,950 Fedex points, made the victory that much sweeter.
The tournament saw Woody Austin and Ernie Els hot on his heels with Austin finishing in second place and Els in third. Woods' lead was reduced to a single stroke on the 14th hole and the crowd held its breath as it seemed Austin might close the gap and make off with the top prize.
But it was not to be. Woods won by sheer determination and gutsy ball striking and great putting!
Although Woody Austin didn't quite pull off the upset, he did post his best ever finish in a Major. Els finished in third place after also not quite managing to put enough pressure on Tiger Woods.
